Alessandro Volta invented his battery, made up of discs stacked in this order: copper, zinc, cloth soaked in acidified water, copper, zinc, another piece of cloth, supported by insulating glass cylinders. He announces his finding in the journal Philosophical Transactions, of the Royal Society of London.
