Commercial navigation brought with it the need for communication from land to ships, war was another determining factor. Derived from all this, arises the Code of signals of the Spanish Navy (1429-30). Naval codes were so important that in 1927 the International Radiotelegraph Conference established the International Code of Signals. as well as the code of flags for the sea.
