With the arrival of Apple and Google, a decade has followed in which they have cornered the market and established their positions, but without radical changes. That changed in 2019 with Samsung’s first foldable screen phone, a change in technology and shape that is easy to venture a great future into as technology becomes cheaper and moves from premium to lower ranges.
Samsung’s Galaxy Fold had serious durability issues in its first generation, but things have improved quite a bit in just four years and both the Galaxy Fold and the Flip are currently much more reliable products although still prohibitive for most users. But the idea of having a mobile phone that can become a tablet by opening it, or a standard one that can be halved by closing it, is making its way into the interests of users.
